PoS operator fatally shot in Ogun

Suspected armed robbers, riding on a motorcycle, fatally shot a Point of Sale operator in the Oke-Lantoro area of Abeokuta, Ogun State. The tragic event occurred around 7 pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024, as the gunmen unleashed gunfire indiscriminately upon their arrival, instilling fear and prompting residents to flee for safety

“On Sunday, an individual was shot in the Oke-Lantoro vicinity. Armed individuals arrived on a motorcycle, firing their guns erratically into the air. Before we could comprehend the situation, they targeted the lotto agent, resulting in a tense atmosphere with people scrambling for safety to avoid being caught in the chaos,” revealed the source.

However, the source noted that the police’s intervention effectively quelled the situation.

SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, confirmed the incident, clarifying that it was suspected to be a case of robbery rather than cult-related clashes, as rumored.

She identified the victim as Mutiu Salako, who was shot by two armed men during the assault.

“The incident did occur, but it was suspected to be a case of armed robbery, not a clash between cult groups as speculated by some. Two armed individuals reportedly entered the area on a motorcycle and targeted the PoS operator who was in his shop at the time,” stated the PPRO

Odutola emphasized that a search was underway for the escaping suspects, asserting the police’s commitment to ensuring their apprehension and prosecution.

“We want to assure the citizens of Ogun State that while suspects may attempt to evade capture, we are determined to pursue them relentlessly until they face justice.”
